TWA Flight 800 (1996) – A Boeing 747 exploded after take-off en route from New York to Paris. 230 people lost their lives.
Japan Airlines Flight 123 (1985) – A Boeing 747 crashed into the mountains in Japan, killing 520 people. This is the deadliest accident involving a single airplane.
Charkhi Dadri Mid-Air Collision (1996) – A Saudi Arabian Airlines flight and a Kazakhstan Airlines plane collided in mid-air. 349 people lost their lives.
Air India Flight 182 (1985) – A Boeing 747, a Canadian Air India flight, exploded in a terrorist attack. 329 people lost their lives.
Hindenburg Crash (1937) – In one of the world’s most famous weather balloon crashes, the Hindenburg exploded and caught fire in America. 36 people lost their lives.
Lockerbie Bombing (1988) – A Pan American flight exploded in the air as a result of a terrorist attack in Scotlenda. 270 people lost their lives.
Iran Air Flight 655 (1988) – An Iran Air flight was shot down accidentally by an American warship. 290 people died.
Turkish Airlines Flight 981 (1974) – A DC-10 crashes due to a technical malfunction en route from Paris to Istanbul, killing 346 people.
Swissair Flight 111 (1998) – A McDonnell Douglas MD-11 crashed into the sea off the coast of Canada. 229 people lost their lives.
Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 (2014) – A flight from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing suddenly disappeared and 239 people went missing. The wreckage of the plane has still not been found.
Air France Flight 447 (2009) – An Airbus A330 crashed into the Atlantic Ocean en route from Rio de Janeiro to Paris. 228 people lost their lives.
EgyptAir Flight 990 (1999) – A Boeing 767 crashed into the ocean en route from New York to Cairo. 217 people died.
KLM Flight 4805 and Pan Am Flight 1736 (1977) – At an airport in Spain, two airplanes collided on the runway. 583 people lost their lives. This is the deadliest plane crash in history.
American Airlines Flight 191 (1979) – A DC-10 plane taking off from Chicago crashed due to an engine failure. 273 people lost their lives.
Alaska Airlines Flight 261 (2000) – A McDonnell Douglas MD-83 crashed into the ocean off the coast of California. 88 people lost their lives.
Asiana Airlines Flight 214 (2013) – A Boeing 777 crashed on the runway while trying to land in San Francisco. 3 people died, more than 200 were injured.
China Airlines Flight 611 (2002) – A Boeing 747 crashed into the sea off the coast of Taiwan. 225 people lost their lives.
British Airways Flight 38 (2008) – While landing at London Heathrow Airport, a Boeing 777 left the runway due to engine failure and was severely damaged. 47 people were injured.
Pan Am Flight 103 (1988) – In connection with the Lockerbie Bombing, killing 270 people.
Air India Express Flight 1344 (2020) – A Boeing 737 crashed in India, veering off the runway during landing. 21 people lost their lives.
